It’s Meehan over Lentz in Pennsylvania’s 7th

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

After a fierce fight, Republican Pat Meehan will represent Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District. The former prosecutor defeated Democratic state lawmaker Bryan Lentz.

Two hours after polls closed last night, Meehan scaled the stage inside Springfield Country Club for a victory speech.

Standing before dozens of cheering supporters, Meehan said his number one objective come January will be addressing the struggles faced by jobless Pennsylvanians.

“This is a great night, it’s an exciting night and it should be. But the fact of the matter is this is a great victory for us but there’s a lot of people around this region that there is no victory for tonight because they still don’t have a job.”

In Upper Darby, Lentz urged Democrats to not be discouraged by the loss.

“This is just one night.  We have a long life ahead of all of us.  A long life in politics, a long future.  And so I hope you’ll all continue to stay involved because it does make a difference.”

Meehan, a former US attorney, will fill the seat vacated by Democrat Joe Sestak, who failed in his bid for the US Senate.
