Philadelphia's Sheriff won't retire at the end of the month after all. John Green said Wednesday he will stay on the job until an audit of his office's books by the city controller is finished.
Philadelphia City Controller Alan Butkovitz said he wants a complete audit of the office accounts used to hold proceeds from foreclosure auctions until settlement. Green said he won't retire until a financial review of his office is completed because he has nothing to hide.
"I had some rather concrete plans for the future, of course plans are sometimes made to be broken. In this case I feel compelled to do so in order to remain for the time period that it takes to get this situation completely satisfied, said Green who wants people to have "full confidence in the sheriff's office and the handling of its funds."
Green said he's even willing to hire a consultant to help the controller with any audits. The financial review is expected to take several months.
