Paramedics sue Philadelphia over union

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Paramedics have officially filed suit to stay in the Philadelphia firefighters union. They feel they are being intimidated by Mayor Michael Nutter.

The paramedics stood outside City Hall where brass plaques in the sidewalk memorialize those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Firefighters union head Bill Gault says the city’s move to split the paramedics away from the union is intimidation.

“The fact that bully Nuttier is displaying personal glee and smug satisfaction in his retaliation against all Medics is telling about his personality and his lack of regard for Paramedic heroes and their families.”

Mayor Nutter is denying retaliation, and says he is just following the ruling handed down by the state labor relations board.

“They filed a suit, they were successful, they got what they wanted we paid out millions of dollars in overtime which is what this was about and in this particular instance they find themselves in a very different situation as a result of their success.”

City council is siding the paramedics, even hiring a lawyer to help out.
