Philadelphia thanks those who helped Census

The city of Philadelphia has honored community organizations that helped get an accurate headcount in this year’s Census. The community partnership has resulted in more people filling out their forms.
More than 40 community groups were recognized for their participation in Census 2010. Fernando Armstrong is regional director of the census bureau in Philadelphia. He says the assistance was especially helpful in poor and minority communities.
“These organizations were very effective in reaching out to those communities and persuading them to participate and informing them that the Census is safe and is important to them and bringing about a response rate that is much greater than anything we have seen in the past.”
The first Census results will come out in December. Armstrong says they are expected to show Philadelphia is getting bigger with lots of new immigrants.
