PHA to decide Carl Greene’s fate this week

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Another meeting of the Philadelphia Housing Authority Board is scheduled this week to consider the future of Executive Director Carl Greene.

The PHA Board put Carl Greene on indefinite leave with pay pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment at the housing agency. Board member Pat Eiding says he doesn’t believe Greene is the only one at fault.

“If we would have known in 2004 about some sort of a situation even if Carl didn’t, wasn’t guilty we could have addressed that situation we would have had two three and four cases but we didn’t know and that’s starting to come out now and I know folks politically want to play with this thing. In the seven years did I ever get a question from the mayor nor did I ever get a question from the governor about this PHA.”

Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, another PHA board member, has been Greene’s staunchest defender. Blackwell says she believes in due process for the embattled housing chief and won’t make any decisions while an investigation is still on-going.
