Philadelphia city employees now have a new incentive to go back to school. It means a big discount for those who want to go to some area schools.
The city has partnered with five area colleges and universities to offer a 25 percent tuition discount to employees seeking to further their education. Mayor Michael Nutter says he’s trying to make good on his promise to increase the number of college-educated people in Philadelphia.
“Through the returning to learning partnership,” Nutter said, “city government can support our employees to reaching their post-secondary education goals in a cost effective manner. We have a system in place to help children educationally from kindergarten to their high school graduation . It’s important for employers to help working adults get to college and succeed.”
More instutions are expected to sign on soon, and Pierce College is even offering a scholarship for a city employee and a city resident that doesn’t cost the city any money.
