Philadelphia deadbeats pay over $30M in taxes

For a change, there is some good budget news for the city of Philadelphia. On Tuesday the city plans to announce it exceeded its $30 Million goal for a tax amnesty program.
The details will be announced by city officials this morning, but Mayor Michael Nutter says far more tax delinquents payed up than expected. He says that doesn't mean budget cuts such as not hiring new police officers will be reversed.
"I would expect pretty much that everything that we collected from the tax amnesty is not only going to fill the hole that we already anticipated filling but then we anticipate losing some tax revenues because of the recession and some cuts that will come down from the state. So we are still in a tough economic situation."
The mayor says now that amnesty is over the city will be aggressive in collecting all the money owed by delinquents. He says there won't be another amnesty program anytime soon.
