Rounding up votes for Chris Christie’s budget

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

New Jersey lawmakers are working to finalize a new state budget with only a few days left until the start of the next fiscal year.

Concern over some of the details in the budget bills is holding up approval by legislative committees. And two Republican Assembly members are indicating they’re unwilling to vote for the budget.
Republican Senator Kevin O’Toole is confident his fellow party members in the Senate will all support it.

“I think at the end of the day the Republicans will be there to support the vast majority of these Christie initiatives. There are some people who are getting concerned because they don’t have all the details. I think once they look at the details of the bills they’ll have to fully support. This is only solution in a very terrible time for us.”

The budget will need some support from Democrats to be approved. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo says he anticipates the votes will be found to get it enacted next week and avoid a potential government shutdown.
