Corbett, Rohrer attend pro-gun rally
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010
Pennsylvania's two Republican candidates for governor stood shoulder-to-shoulder with 2nd Amendment advocates during a pro-gun rally at the state Capitol today.
Several hundred people crowded the Capitol steps and voiced their opposition to gun control measures. State Representative Daryl Metcalfe, a Butler Country Republican who's running for lieutenant governor, MCed the event.
"After this year we end – we see an end to the terms of office of that gun-grabbing liberal from Philadelphia that's been occupying the governor's office," said Metcalfe.
Speakers called for the passage of the "castle doctrine" bill – a measure that would reinforce a person's right to defend his or her home with deadly force, without the obligation of trying to retreat first.
After the event, Attorney General Tom Corbett said he couldn't directly support the legislation without reading it first, arguing there are three different measures before the General Assembly.
He did side with its general goal.
"More likely than not, yeah. Would we sign the castle doctrine passed by the legislature? Yes," he said.
Corbett's Republican opponent, State Representative Sam Rohrer, said he'd "absolutely" sign a castle doctrine bill.

Corbett is not what he is made out to be.
Have you seen him speak on this 2A issue?

Corbett responds as a typical career politician; Sam Rohrer as a public servant. Daryl Metcalfe appears to be one of the very few politicians to take on and speak out about issues that 99% of other politicians ignore…at our peril.
Didjanotice? When asked a question, any question, Sam Rohrer says "yes" or he says "no". Tom Cobrbett always says, "I have to check it out" or "I will have to study that". He NEVER knows what's going on and he NEVER has an answer. Tom Corbett is too unprepared and, it appears, too stupid to be governor of PA.
Did you ever notice that it is easy for Rohrer to say "yes" or "no" because he has never been held accountable for his inability to get anything accomplished? Too stupid? Why, because he actually wants to read a bill front to back before giving a definate answer?
Maybe Sam as a current representative from Berks county has already read the bill.
It appears you are too inexperienced to understand the role of a chief executive. Rohrer made votes(missed more than a few) not decisions over his 17 illustrious, historic years in the House, where he never once introduced a bill that became law. He did vote himself a big pay raise, and a 50% pension increase which only led to all other public employees demanding, and getting the same. Why should Rohrer worry about being unemployed come May 19 (or shortly after) he has that big fat annual pension of over 100k per year compliments of the states tax payers to ease his mind. Why don't you wake up, Corbett is the REAL DEAL, AND EXACTLY THE HIGH INTEGRITY, ACCOUNTABLE PERSON WE NEED WHO HAS THE RIGHT PLAN AND THE STRENGTH AND SMARTS TO SEE IT THROUGH. Corbett has the strength to not over react to a question, but assures when he answers he means it. You could not show me a CEO of a successful company who feels compelled to answer questions yes or no without, as Corbett said, "reading and studying it first".If he did, the company would be out of business, or he or she would have spent 17 years in the House with nothing to show for it, except for hundreds of thousands in unconstitutional per diem expenses paid by the Pennsylvania work force who are 47th nationwide in personal income growth while good ol' Sam has been in the General Assembly
Most CEO's already know the issues and how to respond to proposed legislation and what to introduce as legislation to fix the problems in PA. Corbett does not. He is just looking for upward mobility. I heard Tom and Sam respond to the same questions in York several days ago, and Sam clearly won the day with straightforward answers, not waffling.
Wow. Get your facts straight. Rohrer did not accept the "big fat pay raise" – but Corbett did. Rohrer has acknowledged that the pension vote was a mistake, and based on bad numbers, and he has a plan to fix the problem. I can point you to at least 2 surveys that show Rohrer has a plan for solving the pension crisis, while Corbett does not.
Corbett is waffling on the issues not because he wants to "read the legislation" – these are issues that he should already know about and have positions on – Corbett is waffling because he has sold out to special interests and doesn't want us to know where he truly stands.
The Labor, Teacher and State employee Unions have bought Corbett's vote. He is "undecided" on ending forced unionization, how to solve the pension crisis, whether to offer vouchers to kids in failing schools, and now evidently he is undecided on our 2nd amendment rights… Some Republican.
Corbett celebrates regular violations of Pa. Const. art. I, sec. 1 on the attorney general's website. Take heed that part of our right to keep and bear arms is protected in that provision. If he is willing to suspend art. I, sec. 1 protections for the right to acquisition, possession, and disposition of property when it comes to 'drugs', there's no reason to believe he won't suspend it when it comes to arms. He took he oath once and has made clear he cares not for it, and he should not be rewarded with another chance to be bold in trampling our rights.
