Wagner releases transportation plan

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

The race for Pennsylvania Governor ran past Philadelphia's now under-construction South Street Bridge today.

While workers in hard hats buzzed back and forth with wheelbarrows and tools, Democratic candidate for Governor and Auditor General Jack Wagner said the state needs to get smarter about getting transportation funds.

Wagner: You can't not have a plan in front of the federal government when they just allocated $9.5 billion in high speed rail and Pennsylvania only got $37 million because we didn't have a plan in front of the federal government that our Congressional delegation in a bi-partisan way could have supported.

Wagner says he wants to build effective high-speed rail systems that connect Pennsylvania cities to each other and nearby cities like New York, Washington D.C. and Cleveland.

A recent poll shows Attorney General Tom Corbett, the leader for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, remains ahead of each of the three top Democratic contenders by double digits.
