Barnett: I want to start by telling you… I’m sorry, I thought I could get at least get past the first sentence.

The tears flowed as Managing Director Camille Barnett announced her decision to resign her position as of June 30th.  She told supporters the decision came because of a need to reflect after the death of her husband which happened just days before she was to be sworn in.

Barnett: My deep grief has also meant a deep reflection on my life and what I want to be doing and I think I need some time and space to figure that out.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says it was Barnett who brought him to Washington DC from Chicago, and he was happy to see her again in Philadelphia.

Ramsey: Any doubts I had about our ability to succeed were put to rest, because she is a tremendous administrator.

No replacement has been named. Mayor Michael Nutter says he’s not sure if there will be a national search for a new managing director.
