Gov. Markell headed overseas
Friday, February 5th, 2010
Delaware Governor Jack Markell (D) will spend next week in Germany and England, trying to strengthen the state's connections with companies that are already doing business in the first state, and trying to encourage other companies to establish economic ties with the state.
It will be Markell's first overseas trip as Governor. The announcement of his trip is a procedural departure from his predecessor. Former Governor Ruth Ann Minner's overseas trips typically weren't announced until her plane had already the country.
Markell says he wants to spread the word about the advantages of doing business in Delaware with international companies, "I am looking forward to sharing the stories of our state's workers and finding ways to connect our legacy of innovation with these global leaders' visions for the future and the jobs they can bring."
Markell will meet with companies including AstraZeneca, Barclays Bank, HSBC, and the Fraunhofer Institute. He'll return to Delaware Friday, February 8.
