Feds investigate Toyota brake problem

The U.S. Transportation Department has launched a formal investigation into reported brake problems in the 2010 Toyota Prius Hybrid, just one day after Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood apologized for urging owners of recalled Toyota cars to "stop driving" them.

News of the investigation comes in the wake of the worldwide recall of nearly 8 million Toyota vehicles due to sticking accelerator pedals. Among the eight models recalled were the 2010 Camry, Corolla and RAV4. But now, attention has shifted to the 2010 Prius hybrid after a series of brake-related complaints creates more safety fears for consumers.
Albert Schmidt of Philadelphia is a regular Toyota customer who's in the market for a new car. He says this undermines his long standing belief in the company.
Schmidt: It's very much of a concern for everyone and it's faulty engineering. I own a toyota camry. I would not buy a new one.
Wayne Wynn from Bear, Delaware was shocked to find out the news but says this won't change his loyalty.
Toyota: I still believe in Toyota that they will straighten this out and will affect my buying? It will delay it, but it won't affect it. Toyota is still #1 with me.
Sales for the Japanese automaker slid 16% in January.
Toyota has been involved in a cover-up of its accelerator pedal issues, possibly dating back to 2002.
This current recall of more than 2 million vehicles has Toyota drivers either stranded or risking injury driving to work.

Toyota is also set to announce a recall on nearly a quarter-million Prius cars due to a malfunctioning brake system.
Never mind man-on-the-street Albert Schmidt's opinion – this totally undermines the credibility of your journalism (churnalism). What happened to impartiality – as opposed to confirmation bias?
