Newly selected Speaker Sheila Oliver is the first African American woman to lead a legislative house in New Jersey. She says adversarial partisanship in recent years is not an attitude that solves people's problems. Republican leader Alex DeCroce also pledges bipartisan cooperation to move the state in a direction taxpayers demand.

Oliver says lawmakers will schedule bipartisan hearings to allow the public to have a say about what should be done.

Oliver: I expect the budget, jobs, the economy and property taxes will be our singular focus in the months ahead.

Oliver says one of her goals is to establish a business environment in New Jersey to retain and attract companies. She says the Assembly's Regulatory Oversight Committee will be reinstated with the goal of reducing burdensome regulations on the business community.
