Gerlach will seek re-election to Congress

The race for Pennsylvania's 6th District Congressional seat is heating up following news that Congressman Jim Gerlach has backed out of the race for Governor and will seek re-election to Congress.

Republican incumbent Jim Gerlach has held the Congressional seat since 2002.
He planned to step down in order to campaign for Governor this year. But just one day after giving up his gubernatorial bid due to fundraising difficulties, he announced his run for re-election in the sixth district.
Gerlach: I want to continue to serve the people of Southeastern Pennsylvania the people of the four counties that I do represent currently. I think I can continue to make a very positive difference not only in Washington but also on day to day matters here in the district and contribute to improve the quality of life for our families and our communities.
Gerlach faces several Republican opponents, including State Representative Curt Shroder and businessman Steve Welch, as well as former Inquirer editorial writer Doug Pike on the Democratic side.
