2010 Congressional races taking shape

The calendar says it's still 2009, but for local congressional hopefuls the 2010 election is now in full swing. This week a number of potential candidates for the U.S. House have made news.

Runyan: You got me a large, that's chest bump worthy. You got me the big coffee now come here and get some of Big Jon Runyan.

That's an ad featuring former Eagles lineman Jon Runyan, who could soon be doing ads of a different sort. Yes, Runyan is considering a run for Congress – in New Jersey's 3rd District, as a Republican versus first-term Democrat John Adler.

Bill Pezza teaches government at Bucks County Community College.

Pezza: To run a Congressional campaign you have to start well in advance. You have to put out your feelers, you have to do significant fundraising at least preliminary fundraising. And this is the time that you test the waters and see if there's enough support there to make the run.

In the Pennsylvania suburbs, state legislator Bryan Lentz announced this week that he'll run for the Democratic nomination in the 7th District, and Howard Cohen announced he's seeking the Republican nomination in the 6th.
