Help for former Delaware auto workers

There's new help for former workers at Delaware's General Motors assembly plant near Wilmington. U.S. Department of Labor officials say those workers will be eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Through the program, the workers will receive re-employment assistance and training.
Some workers will be eligible for extra pay. If a worker is over 50 years old gets a new job that pays less than $55,000, they could receive up to 50% of the difference between the old wage and new wage, to a maximum of $12,000 over two years.
For the hundreds of GM workers who gave years to the company, Governor Jack Markell (D-Delaware) says, "I'm very pleased the Obama-Biden administration is helping to give them the opportunity to learn new skills to become a part of Delaware's economic future." The state will be contacting those workers who are eligible with instruction on how they should apply for the program.
