President Barack Obama and now Democratic U.S. Senator Arlen Specter arrived in Philadelphia around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon aboard Air Force One. The two both spoke in Pittsburgh earlier in the day to AFL-CIO members at their national convention.
Specter announced today that he will now support an amended version of the Employee Free Choice Act. The bill, which unions consider their number one legislative priority, would make it easier for employees to seek union recognition. Earlier this year, Republican Senator Specter said he would not support the union backed bill.
The President in in Philadelphia to headline a fundraiser for Specter's re-election campaign in 2010. The event is scheduled for the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City Philadelphia.
