Meehan strong candidate for congress

On Monday, former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan is expected to announce he will run for Congress in Pennsylvania. Meehan is is looking to represent the 7th district which is mostly Delaware County but also includes parts of Chester and Montgomery counties. The former District Attorney of Delaware County is looking to fill the seat that's being vacated by two-term Representative Joe Sestak who's leaving to run for the U.S. Senate.

Meehan's candidacy is great news for Republicans who want to wrestle the seat away from the Democrats, says Republican political analyst Jeff Jubilirer.

Jubilirer: Pat Meehan is a very strong candidate to reclaim that traditionally held Republican seat before Joe Sestak beat Curt Weldon a couple of years ago. The District is very much a swing District and having a candidate of Pat Meehan's stature bodes very well for Republicans to pick up that seat in 2010.

Jubilirer says he highly doubts Meehan will face a contested GOP primary. He says Meehan is such a strong candidate and is so well-liked by many Republicans, that he expects local party leadership will line up behind him. Jubilirer says with Meehan entering the race he expects others considering a run in the Republican primary, will step aside.
