N.J. State Senator Dana Redd wins Democratic Mayoral Primary in Camden

State senator Dana Redd took a giant step toward becoming mayor of the City of Camden yesterday. She easily won the Democratic primary despite low voter turnout, and says she is ready to face three independent challengers in November.

Dana Redd says if elected Mayor, she will put Camden residents first. She says that includes helping ex-offenders.
Redd: They need an opportunity at a job, so that they can provide for themselves making livable wages with pension and benefits, and so that they can take care of their family, they can become homeowners and they can reestablish themselves. And we are going to be working hard to implement second chance opportunities for our residents in Camden that want that second opportunity.
The state controls many of the operations of the city of Camden, but that legislation expires in 2012.
The next Mayor's term continues after that and Redd says she is uniquely qualified to lead Camden, because she has experience working with the state and city, as a state senator and City Councilmember.
