Odds are Del. Governor will legalize sports betting

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

It looks like legal sports betting is coming to Delaware. The State Senate has approved a bill that would legalize sports betting in Delaware, something that only four states in the nation are even legally able to consider.

After first voting to bypass the committee process, the Senate debated for less than 30 minutes before passing the bill by a vote of 17-2. But even though the vote was quick, Senator Anthony Deluca, the bill's senate sponsor says they've been involved in the process all along.

Deluca: I think that once everybody had a chance to study that, had a real explanation of what was taking place in the bill, looked at the financial package and looked at the money we were trying to raise, it was pretty much a vote based on do we move forward or don't we move forward on this.

The latest word from the Governor's Office is that the Governor will sign the bill into law in the next few days.
