Mayor Nutter says the city of Philadelphia is getting tough on tax deadbeats. WHYY's Tom MacDonald's Tom MacDonald was there yesterday when the mayor enlisted the sheriff to make his point clear.

Transcript:

Mayor Nutter sent the sheriff inside a Center City office building, serving notices of asset sales on three law firms who owe the city a combined 350 thousand dollars in back taxes. The notices provide warning that the city will seize and sell anything that isn't nailed down, if need be, to recover its revenue.

The mayor says the city will go after anyone who hasn't paid what they owe.

Nutter: "We know who you are and we expect you to pay, faced with the kind of budget shortfall we are faced with faced with the kind of tough choices we have to make, we will aggressively pursue any outstanding tax deadbeats, and that ladies and gentlemen will be the easiest decision I'll have to make this budget season."

The mayor says the city has collected over $2.5 million from delinquents since publishing the first list of names in November.
