Delaware Technical Community College is launching an aviation academic program and held a dedication ceremony for the program's unique facility.

Transcript:
Delaware Tech is celebrating the opening of its new aviation maintenance education center at the Sussex County Airpark.

The county kicked in $1.2 million to buy, and renovate, an old hangar to house the center. In addition to state of the art classrooms where instructors will teach courses on how to fix airplanes, the facility has an area for hands-on training.

The Airframe Maintenance Technology degree will prepare students for certification by the Federal Aviation Administration. Career-changer Steve Moffett is one of the students who will start taking courses here next month.

Moffett: "The equipment they have is top notch equipment. I can't wait to learn so I can teach someone too."

And it's worthwhile investment since aircraft technicians usually earn between 32 and 55 thousand  a year.
