Market News

Exploring The Markets
This is pretty basic, but when I bring a few recipes with me to the markets I shop better; yet I do leave the door wide open to suggestions, new uses for vegetables and fruits, and new recipes from farmers and fellow shoppers. Remember that if you can't find a particular fresh vegetable of fruit check the frozen selections, farmers usually pack them as soon as they're harvested. Some market stands also offer frozen soups made at the farm's kitchens.

Apples are still plentiful, including these varieties: Granny Smith, Stayman Winesap, Red and Gold Delicious. Also navy beans, lentils, fresh greens, lettuce, spring mixes, hydroponically grown lettuces and fresh herbs, Chinese cabbage, Jerusalem artichokes, carrots, rutabagas, turnips, potatoes, fingerlings, sweet potatoes, beets and much more. Also look for, stews, soups, stir-fried veggies, and roasted vegetables.

New from the Rittenhouse Market: Fresh locally caught New Jersey seafood ("Shore Catch").
