The Huey
With all the attention to the recent Ken Burns documentary we welcome you to our First special on the Vietnam War. We begin with the story of about seven thousand UH-1 helicopters deployed during the Vietnam War. Nicknamed the ‘Huey,’ the single-engine helicopter was a workhorse, widely used for medevac missions and moving troops quickly from one landing zone to another. But for many veterans, the huey is so much more than just an aircraft.

Wall of remembrance
The conversation, which has never stopped when it comes to the war, was heightened during the Ken Burns series. Understanding the Vietnam War takes us next to Washington DC, where veterans from Delaware and around the region are a part of a new education center coming to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Delaware Vietnam story
Just like the history being created at the national wall, there are others who are on a mission to preserve those voices of veterans in Delaware. It’s an important part of T.J. Healy’s life.

Vietnam’s impact
War and Hollywood have been connected for a century. Vietnam is no exception.
In this next segment we’re going to call on WHYY movie expert Patrick Stoner to call out five films, which made an impact. This isn’t a top five list, and it doesn’t include any of the Rambo movies.
