Midwife controversy

Midwives working without a permit in Delaware now face stiffer penalties, including possible jail time. It’s not every type of midwife, but a clash over one particular kind of birth attendant. They prefer the title Certified Professional Midwife, Delaware calls them Non-Nurse Midwives. A new law steps up sanctions for Non-Nurse Midwives, but opponents say the change actually penalizes Delaware families and has severely limited options for women who want to give birth at home.

Betting on the Web

During Governor Jack Markell’s time in office, gaming revenue has played a bigger role in lining up the state budget, although the dynamics of gambling have changed over that time too. With a seemingly never ending supply of competition from Delaware’s neighbors, casinos in the First State are looking to attract a new crop of younger gamblers who will make bets online.

New Soup

Brighter days are ahead, and things are finally coming together for a Rehoboth woman who has dedicated her life to helping the less fortunate. Almost two years ago, she was featured on a hit television series where producers created an even better facility for her soup kitchen, but zoning and code issues caused a problem limiting its use. The good news is that now the new site is finally under construction.

First Experience: 10 years of art

In June 2004, in the lower level of the town library, the Mispillion Art League was born. Its been a long road from those humble beginnings, but it seems to have paid off. The Art League will be celebrating 10 years in 2014. First Experience went to check out their 10th annual members show, going on now, to find out what makes the Art League such a great treasure in Milford.
