First Experience: ASL Poetry
Art comes in many forms and languages, one such form is poetry. This art form uses prose, rhymes, and rhythm to convey emotion, or tell a story. This week we introduce you to ASL Poetry, or American Sign Language Poetry. ASL Poetry transforms the written and spoken words into a visual one, expressing feelings, emotions and actions using sign language as the mode of expression. The three poems you will see are from students at Delaware’s School for the Deaf in Newark who won a poetry contest. It’s a very unique experience.
