On March 24, 2009, It’s Our City began an outreach campaign to every member of the Philadelphia City Council asking for them to share with us their thoughts about the budget. The questions are pretty straight-forward.
Do you largely support the mayor’s budget?
If you do not, what areas do you see as problematic?
What alternatives do you suggest that would still keep the budget in balance?
The Budget must be signed into law by June 1, 2009 to take effect the following month.
Between now and then City Council will be quite busy with more than four weeks of budget hearings focusing on individual city departments, then a week in early May dedicated for public testimony. To learn more see council’s hearing schedule.
While we realize that Council is quite busy, but we do hope that our local representatives will use this invitation as a way to communicate with the public. It’s Our City has played a key role covering the budget workshops that the Mayor had asked for, and would like to offer council this venue to let us know what its members are thinking.
