Seth Williams back on DA ballot: and then there were 5… again

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 2:58 pm - by Dan Pohlig

Just got an email from the Williams campaign that the Commonwealth Court overturned Judge Tereshko’s ruling that removed him from the primary ballot. YPP, unofficial home of the Seth Williams fan club, has a link to the 1-page decision. The decision indicates that the judge’s opinion will follow.
Williams’ email makes no mention of his campaign [...]

You can't spell "New Day" without "New D.A."

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 at 2:46 pm - by Dan Pohlig

Like her or not, you can’t argue that District Attorney Lynne Abraham has one thing in spades - staying power. If Philadelphia were the setting for Law and Order, she would definitely be Sam Waterston, which I guess would make Ron Castille Michael Moriarty (or better yet, David Caruso, another person who left a successful [...]

Radio Times to Talk Philly Poliltics at Ten

Friday, April 3rd, 2009 at 12:10 am - by Matt Campbell

I’ve been writing the It’s Our City blog since June 2008, and in that short period of time I amazed at the challenges this city has faced in this tiny window. To be sure, not everything has been bad, who can forget The Philadelphia Phillies’ World Series Championship. But since the summer the city’s economic [...]

Seth Williams' Campaign Uninterrupted

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 at 5:51 pm - by Its Our City Staff

By Jason Kleinman
Seth Williams isn’t acting like a candidate who just got kicked off the ballot for the Democratic primary race for District Attorney. This morning, he joined the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity in a press conference, as they endorsed him as their pick for the city’s next DA.
The group was not [...]

Stephen Colbert Gets Boost from Pennsylvania Congressman in NASA Naming Contest

Monday, March 30th, 2009 at 2:41 pm - by Matt Campbell

Stephen Colbert got the highest number of votes in a NASA Space Station module naming contest. Now U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah wants to ensure that there is “Democracy in Orbit” and is pressuring the space agency to go with the people’s choice. Here’s part of what Fattah released last week in a statement.

Seth Williams Out of the Phila D.A.'s Race

Saturday, March 28th, 2009 at 12:14 pm - by Matt Campbell

Seth Williams, the highest profile candidate in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s race, has been booted from the May primary ballot. KYW 1060 reports this morning that Common Pleas court Judge Allan Tereshko is out of the race because the democratic D.A. candidate failed to report more than $10,000 he recieved from his campaign committee as [...]

Rate the ad: District Attorney Candidate Brian Grady

Friday, March 13th, 2009 at 5:02 pm - by Dan Pohlig

At the risk of giving free media to a candidate who doesn’t seem to have spent that much even on his paid media, here is DA candidate Brian Grady’s effort to capture that all important Irish vote:
Democratic candidate Grady’s ad man is Elliott Curson who is apparently still getting a lot of traction out of [...]

Hometown Senator in a lot of trouble

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009 at 8:19 am - by Dan Pohlig

With former congressman Pat Toomey’s revelation that he is seriously considering jumping over from the governor’s race to take on 16-term Senator Arlen Specter, the blogosphere is abuzz with possible scenarios.
Full disclosure: In 2004, I was the Issues Director for Congressman Joe Hoeffel who ran unsuccessfully against Senator Specter in the general election. Specter won [...]

It’s Official: Alan Butkovitz vs. Brett Mandel

Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 2:45 pm - by Matt Campbell

Quick, someone schedule a debate between these two guys. Two of the
region’s most notable quotables are on a collision course, and I’d like a front-row seat.
As Philadelphia’s fiscal watchdog, City Controller Alan Butkovitz ferrets out wasteful spending by auditing city departments. If he finds waste, he is empowered to alert all and sundry: “Look what [...]

What’s The Way Out?

Monday, February 9th, 2009 at 5:00 am - by Tom Ferrick

By Tom Ferrick
Talk about mixed emotions.
Imagine you are Mayor Michael Nutter reading the results of the public opinion poll released last week.
First, there’s good news. Your approval rating is 71%, despite the bumps and bruises you have taken over the budget cutting done so far.
Now, some bad news: Most folks hate the steps you’ve taken [...]
