Fumo sentencing hearing moved to larger courtroom

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 at 11:32 am - by Alan Tu. Filed under: Community.

Hundreds of people arrived this morning to witness the sentencing of former state Senator Vincent Fumo. Emilie Lounsberry who is live blogging from the courtroom for The Philadelphia Inquirer says more than 100 people jammed the 14th floor space and that prompted court officials to move everyone to the Ceremonial Courtroom which can handle 300 people. The switched delayed the trial proceedings for about a hour.

Lounsberry says the prosecution began just after 11:00 a.m. with Dr. John Manenti who is expected to talk about the medical facilities that would be available to Fumo who has health problems.

The sentence itself will likely be announced late this afternoon.
