Philadelphia wins right to host more Army/Navy Games

Philadelphia has the won the right to host most of the the Army/Navy games through 2017.  The Naval Academy announced this afternoon that Philadelphia will host the prestigious game for six of the next nine years.  2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017.

You’ll notice that there are a few missing years here. Three of the games will be played in Maryland.

2011 Landover, Maryland just outside Washington D.C.

2014 in Baltimore, Maryland (only 30 miles from the Naval Academy)

2016 in Baltimore, Maryland

In a statement released by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, the mayor is quoted as being delighted by today’s decision.

“This is a tremendous event for us for so many reasons, including the national exposure it brings, the chance for us to honor the men and women of our military each year, and the economic impact it generates for our entire region.”

Philadelphia has hosted the game every year from 1945 to 1982 and has been the site of 11 of the past 15 contests. The 2009 Army/Navy Game will be held on December 12th at Lincoln Financial Field.

It should be a Philadelphia tradition. Enough of this Maryland nonsense.
