The Eagles' refusal to pay the City did not sit well with residents during this year's citizen budget workshops
A judge in Philadelphia has ruled that the Philadelphia Eagles owe the City of Philadelphia $8 million for revenues generated from the sky boxes at the old Veterans Stadium. This is a victory for the City which has been demanding the money ever since the end of the 2001 football season.
But, the story is not over. The same judge that gave the City a win is expected to rule next week on how much Philadelphia owes to the Eagles for shoddy turf that resulted in a 2001 pre-season game to be canceled. The Eagles say they lost a lot of money because of that cancellation. According to Clout, the judge could make the city pay anywhere from $5 million to $8 million.
If it’s $8 million then, in a way, the Eagles win in principle. Why? Because, the team knew it owed the City for the sky boxes but after it lost money over the canceled game it basically said the two sides were even.
For the citizens of Philadelphia, they’ll probably be glad this dispute is over. But when asked during the citizen budget workshops if they felt the Eagles owed the City $8 million, the vast majority felt strongly that the team did owe the money and demanded that it pay up asap.
