Democratic Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak says he’s personally made the decision to challenge Senator Arlen Specter for the Democratic nomination for Senate next year. Talking Points Memo broke the news yesterday and put this video clip up of Sestak speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

If Sestak is in, this promises to be a mega-money U.S. Senate primary battle that will be watched closely on a national level. Right now, Specter is now the Democrats biggest prize since his defection from the Republican Party.

State Representative Bill Kortz from Pittsburgh is running as well. While not as well known as either Specter or Sestak, his western PA connections, and ties to the labor movement (he is a former steel worker) could further complicate things for Specter, especially if Specter votes against card check again.
