Forum tonight will discuss the impact of higher taxes in Philly

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at 1:49 pm - by Alan Tu. Filed under: Budget.

It’s Our Money blogger Ben Waxman hosts an important discussion tonight on Philadelphia taxes. The forum will give you a better understanding how a proposed five-year sales tax increase in Philly will impact both retail sales and city revenues. The sales tax hike is part of the City’s proposed 2010 budget that aims to close a $1.4 billion five-year gap.  The panel is also planning to explore how a proposed property tax hike would impact homeowners and businesses. Right now, the real estate tax hike is off the table, but could be reconsidered if the Pennsylvania Legislature does not approve the City’s request for lifting the ceiling on the sale tax.

It seems like people are always trying to raise taxes. Taxes for the roads and taxes for the construction. When does it end?
