The good folks over at PA2010.com alerted me to this Politico story that says Joe Torsella plans to pull out of the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania. Here’s what Politico is reporting right now.
Democrat Joe Torsella is dropping out of the Pennsylvania Senate race, according to two well-placed Democratic sources, leaving Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) with no serious opposition in the Democratic primary – at least for now.
Torsella’s formal announcement is expected to take place tomorrow.
Dan Hirschhorn at PA2010.com adds that Torsella has apparently prepared a video that will be shown to his supporters explaining his decision to exit the race.
In a video to be released to supporters soon, a transcript of which was provided by someone inside the campaign, Torsella said that he was “initially reluctant to quit something that so many people had thrown themselves into, heart and soul.
“But now that the dust has settled,” Torsella said, “it’s clear to me that the kind of campaign this would become is not the kind of campaign I—or you—signed up for. It would probably be negative, personal, and more about Senator Specter’s past than our common future and that won’t do Pennsylvania any good.”
So, in the spirit of democracy, are there any Dems out there who wants to take the big guy (Arlen)?
