City Controller's Race: Debate Number 3 Tonight
Thursday, May 7th, 2009 at 9:42 am - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Politics.
If last night’s Philadelphia City Contoller’s debate at the National Constitution Center is any indication of what’s to come, tonight’s third gathering will be quite entertaining and informative. This showdown will include the three Democratic candidates for Controller, the incumbent Alan Butkovitz, and challengers John Braxton and Brett Mandel. Here are the details.
Northeast Philadelphia
John Perzel Community Center
2990 St. Vincent St
7p.m. - 8 p.m.
Moderator: Chris Satullo
It is sponsored by WHYY an NEastPhilly.com (a new blog covering Northeast Philadelphia)
The primary election in Philadelphis is May 19. The successful Democrat will go to face Republican Al Schmidt in the General Election in November.
Check out this story from KYW about last night’s Controller’s debate. It sounded like the two challengers really went after Butkovitz on the issue of whether he actually audits every department on an annual basis. When I talked with Butkovitz last week about this, he claimed that his department does do financial audits of every department and then conducts special performance audits on an as needed basis. I’ll be interested tonight to hear whether this is actually the case or whether his challengers are distorting his record.
The good news is I’m taking a video camera out there tonight. So, sometime tomorrow I’ll have both a watchable video of the entire debate and a downloadable Mp3 file for you. Also, be sure and check out WHYY radio a wrap-up and go over to NEastPhilly.com for a full report from Christopher Wink.
