Christiana Fire Company in Delaware is selling this paramedic truck. As of Monday at 2:30 p.m. the high bidder on Govdeals.com was $13,250
The online auction Govdeals.com is helping city and towns sell extra inventory. The topic came up at today’s Philadelphia City Council budget hearing on the Streets Department. The meeting is part of Council’s annual budget process to grill department heads to make sure its members fully understand the city’s fiscal situation.
The topic of Philadelphia’s car fleet came up when Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller asked whether the city was getting a good price for its old vehicles. Miller said she had hear that one city truck that cost the city $20,000 truck went for $1500.
The Streets Department responded that selling the cars is handled by the Procurement Department but that city vehicles are getting much higher prices since the city began selling them in the online auction site Govdeals.com. Councilwoman Miller seemed surprised that cars are sold on the internet. “I didn’t know that people purchased cars on the internet. I would think people would want to look at it.” But, her point was well taken, that just because its a city car shouldn’t mean that we just give it away.
Right now, there are no old Philly cars up for sale, but it’s an amazing site. You can find all kinds of stuff local governments are trying to get rid of. I went over to the site to what else I could find.
