Councilman to Defend Cell Phone Ban

Monday, April 20th, 2009 at 2:53 pm - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Transportation.

Philadelphia City Councilman Bill Green will appear on WHYY’s Radio Times tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. to talk about why bicyclists and skateboarders should be included in a city-wide cell phone ban. Green is a co-sponsor of the bill that would ban anyone from using a hand-held cell phone while driver, biking or skateboarding. Mayor Michael Nutter is expected to sign this into law. If passed, Philadelphia would be among the first cities to extend a cell phone ban to non-motorists. Also, scheduled to appear on Radio Times is Pennsylvania State Representative Josh Shapiro who is sponsoring a state-wide cell phone (hand-held) ban on drivers only.
