You thought Inga was mad before…

I was going to write a little about a recent column by Inquirer architecture critic Inga Saffron in which the scourge of design-challenged developers takes on a Queen Village Neighbors Association decision to allow a couple of homes to be built with (gasp!) street-level, front-facing garages!
But that seems like pretty small potatoes compared to the latest announcement about Sugarhouse Casino. Described in this story as having “a massive, multi-story parking garage for 3,000-plus cars,” which makes the garage “the largest in the city,” the casino should provide a nice target for some classic righteous Inganation. I’m looking forward to it.
(Philebrity started the indignation parade and had some predictions earlier today of what the new design would look like.)

The large grey box is indeed a structured parking facility.
Fitting that the backdrop for the casino is not the riverfront or the city skyline, but a massive garage.
From one good idea gone totally awry (our almost infantile reliance on automobiles) to another (absolutely infantile legislators making back room deals that will destroy the fabric of our riverfront, such as it is).

You would think that the architects and the casino would want to play down the massive concrete block, right?
