The Philadelphia newspapers went all out to cover the verdict in the federal The Philadelphia corruption trial of former Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Fumo. The democrat who spent more than 30 years in the legislature was convicted on all 137 counts on fraud and obstruction of justice.

It was a stunning defeat for Fumo who became one of the city and the state’s most powerful politicians. A member of mensa who was credited for (legally) bringing billions of dollars in state money to the Philadelphia region.

Here are links to some of this morning’s coverage.

Philadelphia Inquirer on the verdict

Philadelphia Inquirer on jury’s reaction

Philadelphia Inquirer on reaction in South Philly (Fumo’s turf)

Philadelphia Daily News on the verdict

Philadelphia Daily News on jury’s reaction

Philadelphia Daily News on juror’s internet postings

Philadelphia Daily News view from Harrisburg columnist John Baer

What do you think? Will Fumo spend the rest of his life in jail? Are there grounds for an appeal? Are you shocked to see Fumo fall like this? Did the evidence against him seem overwhelming?

fyi: Share your thoughts today on Radio Times @ 10 a.m. Marty will be discussing the trial and verdict with CRAIG MCCOY, Staff writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer and EDWARD OHLBAUM, Professor of Law at Temple University. You can call in your comments at 1-888-477-9499
