Rendell for Senate? A PA Superbowl leaves Ed no place to hide

Yes, praise the Lord and pass the Doritos, it’s possible: A week from this moment, America could be anticipating an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl.
Forget for a moment what impact that might have on your average NFL couch potato, or on NBC, which is broadcasting the game this year.
What will it do to Ed Rendell?
Will Mr. Eagles Post-Game Live even attempt to feign neutrality, or will he be honest about his bleeding-green heart - thus risking the wrath of all those who live within sight of the Monongahela?
The import of this choice by the Guv goes beyond football.
If he disingenuously curries favor with Steelers fans, you’ll know he hasn’t ruled out the notion of a run for the U.S. Senate sometime. Rendell has always dismissed the 100 Club as far too posh and slow-moving for his tastes. But rain’s gotta fall, fish gotta swim, and Ed Rendell has to have a race to look forward to.
On the other hand, if Rendell freely admits that, in case of a Keystone Super Bowl, he’d like to see Brian Westbrook ramble for 180, McNabb fire lasers to DeSean Jackson, and Brian Dawkins take a pick to the house, you’ll know he really, truly is a lame duck — with no plans ever to run for statewide office again.
Of all the reasons to root for an Iggles-Steelers matchup, this ranks about 87th. But watching Rendell wriggle would be endlessly amusing.
