Citizen Spotlight: ‘Tis the Season for New Year’s Resolutions

Maybe you’ve set out this year to exercise more, lose weight, save money, quit smoking, lead a less stressful life or do something else. While resolutions typically are a personal thing, what should Philadelphia’s
resolutions be? Mayor Michael Nutter and City Council probably have their own ideas for Philly in 2009. But what do you want to see happen in our city this year? In what areas does the Mayor and City Council need to do a better job? After all, Mayor Michael Nutter is soon approaching his first year anniversary in office. Here’s your chance to give him some pointers. Don’t forget to also include any ideas for how the citizens of Philadelphia can improve our city this year. Happy New Year!

Philadelphians should resolve to push SEPTA to offer better services; bully them, instead of letting them bully us!

No city is ever going to be perfect, besides why would you want to live in a perfect city?
What would i like the city DO MORE OF (note I’m not saying improve) see more of? How about taking advantage of the city’s diversity? This city is rich in culture and not a lot of people know about it. This includes Asian, African-American, Hispanic, etc. I just found out about the strong Brazilian presence in Philadelphia.
P.S.
I would also like to see more trash cans

Stop the bizarre effort to Move The Barnes. Celebrate Dr. Barnes instead of violating his Last Will & Testament! Why doesn’t Philly get a new museum instead of hiring a New York Architects to replicate one we already treasure? A number of the current Barnes Trustees aren’t even PA residents. The great Dr. Barnes trusted the Common People of Philly to protect his legacy - he wouldn’t even let a lot of wealthy folks in. Protect DR. Barnes’ memory Philly. PEOPLE OF PHILADELPHIA, GUARD THE BARNES GATE. KEEP THE BARNES IN MERION!

Philadelphia should resolve once and for all to find tax/revenue sources that are stable, expandable and beyond the old assumptions.
We have always assume that the city either has necessary services with high taxes, or reduced services with lower taxes.
That’s a false choice. The repository of publicly-created value, seen most visibly in taxable land values can provide the revenue we need while providing a mechanism for continues tax cuts on labor and capital, creating a fair and just economic environment where communities and individuals can proposer.
