Unisys to cut jobs, still uncertain about Philly location

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 at 3:44 pm - by Dan Pohlig. Filed under: Economy.

Remember Unisys?  They most recently made news when their plans to relocate their corporate headquarters to Two Liberty Place were thwarted by a newly invigorated Zoning Board of Adjustment who denied them the permission to affix a giant lighted sign to side of Philadelphia’s third tallest building.

The company is back in the news today with what would seem to be the worst Christmas present ever. (A lot of worst evers today, huh?)  Philadelphia Business Journal just sent out an update about the Blue Bell-based information technology company’s plan to cut 1300 jobs and stop making employer contributions to its employees 401K plans.  Freezes in salaries are also part of the cost-cutting plan.

Included in the brief is an update on Unisys’ locational plans:

Unisys didn’t say where the job cuts or consolidations would occur. Unisys is still considering moving its headquarters to Center City Philadelphia, even though it is trying to sublet the 90,000 feet of space it rented in Philadelphia’s Two Liberty Place tower late last year.
