It’s Our City to cover all 8 Town Hall meetings

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 at 7:35 am - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Budget.

It’s Our City and our sister blog It’s Our Money will be covering tonight’s Philadelphia Town Hall meeting on the budget cuts. Tonight’s meeting begins at 7pm and will be at South Philadelphia High School. We’ll have analysis and video of the entire event available tomorrow morning on this site.

If you won’t have a chance to be at the meeting tonight, I encourage you to share your thoughts here on It’s Our City in the comments section.  Now that we’ve been covering the city for the past five months and interviewing the Nutter administration’s top officials, we know that the Mayor’s office monitors our website.

As we head into tonight, I’ll be curious to see the mayor’s presentation. Is he going to explain how we got into this situation. Will he say that the economy is soley responsible for our situation? Will he address the underfunded city employee pension plan that threatens make library branch closings look like mere paper cuts?

What about the public. We know that the fire department’s union and the Friends of the Library are well organized and will probably have hundreds of supporters protesting their budget cuts. But there are many other areas that are being including budget cuts across many city departments. Are there budget cuts that you are worried about that are not being talked about in the media? Let us know here and also try to make it to one of the eight Town Hall meetings and voice your concern.
