Is your department or organization targeted in the Phila budget cuts?

It’s been just over a week since Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced his plan to cut $100 million over the next 7 1/2 months. In that time, both the union for the firefighters and supporters of the library have quickly mobilized with press releases and rallies. The two are getting the lion’s share of media attention because they are well organized. Both these efforts should be a lesson for community organizers about how to respond. We expect a rapid response from a union when there’s talk of budget cuts, and libraries know the drill as well.
It’s Our City wants to know about other organizations that will be impacted. We know for example that if funds for Operation Town Watch are reduced there will be fewer mini grants to the many volunteer neighborhood watch groups.
We want to help provide your organization with a platform to get your side of the story out. If your city department or organization faces a reduction of funds due to the Philadelphia budget cuts please contact me via email with your story.

There was a story on KYW about school swim teams being affected by the budget cuts because of the pool closings. Perhaps someone could follow up about that.
