Wanted Dead or Alive: City releases list of business tax delinquents

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 at 3:39 pm - by Dan Pohlig. Filed under: Budget.

Taking a page out of the old West, the city has decided to post a list of the most wanted, er, most tax delinquent businesses on its website.

You’ll recall that several months ago they took this step to shame many of the city’s biggest property tax delinquents into paying.  Now they’ve taken it one step further to include businesses that think they don’t have to pay.

Going forward, the city will continue to post the identity of any business that owes more than $50,000 in business privilege, net profits and wage tax.  According to the press release (.pdf) that accompanied the announcement of this effort, the city hopes to expand this effort to businesses owing less than $50,000 as well.

Tax scofflaws of note include:

The Regent Box Co. (I suppose they make boxes…)

Neil Stein (I think he made license plates not too long ago…)

and of course…

Milton Street (Who has made a lot of interesting headlines over the years…)

Recognize anyone else on the list (.pdf)?  Let us know in the comments.  Let the shaming begin!
