Major League Baseball announced just minutes ago that Game 5 will NOT be played tonight. That means, tomorrow night (weds, Oct 29 @ 8:37pm eastern) is the next chance for the suspended World Series to be played.

So we remain in the middle of the 6th inning of Game 5 in the World Series with a score of 2-2. The game was suspended mid-game last night in Philadelphia when wind and rain drenched the field. The Philadelphia Phillies lead the best of  7 series 3-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays. If the Phillies win the last half of this game (whenever that happens) they will win the World Series.

The bad weather is giving baseball fans an emotional roller coaster ride, as much of Philadelphia remains in a state of suspended animation. For those not staring in space, there are those like me who think that all of the fans premature talk of a parade yesterday have made the baseball gods mad. So I’d be happy with a Phillies win and, yes, rain on our parade.

Currently in Philadelphia cold rain continues to pour down over much of the city. The forecast says more rain is on the way tonight. But tomorrow the showers will end and we should have partly cloudy skies with winds 10-20mph. Temperatures will be in the 40s for Wednesday night.
Just to the north and northeast of Philadelphia, snow is falling at this hour.

The first big snowstorm of the season in the Northeast has shut down sections of major highways. It’s also left thousands of customers without power. Authorities report a seven-mile stretch of Interstate 80 in northeastern Pennsylvania has been closed because of multiple tractor-trailer wrecks. And utilities say more than 25,000 customers in northeastern Pennsylvania lost power when the heavy, wet snow brought down trees and power lines. Schools have closed or delayed their opening in parts of Pennsylvania and New York state.

This is why one usually does not play baseball so late in the year, in the Northeast…

I know ba$eball is all about money, but playing this late in the year is absurd. And don’t the lousy conditions put the the players at more risk for injuries? Does the players union have anything to say about this?

For every player who declines to play in October, you’ll have at least 24 players who would jump at the chance to replace him. Just sayin’…

Selig is a liar and a dope. The top of the 6th should have never been played and no one in the Phillies organization has the testicular fortitude to stand up to MLB to get that last half inning removed from the records and replayed. The game should resume with the Phils leading 2-1 in the top of the 6th. MLB/Selig are pathetic for changing the rules in the middle of the season and not telling the fans. An absolute disgrace.
