Judge in Fumo corruption trial quits

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 at 7:22 am - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Courts.

The Daily News reports this morning that U.S. District Judge William H. Yohn Jr., has “recused” himself from the trial of Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Fumo. No reason has been given. He will be replaced by Judge Ronald L. Buckwalter.

The trial is currently on-hold till October 20th because of Judge Yohn became ill with flu-like symptoms earlier this month. But it’s not known if this is the reason for the switch.

Federal prosecutors say the 65-year-old Fumo misused more than $3.5 million in funds and resources from the Senate, a charity and a museum. Fumo is charged with 139 counts of fraud and corruption. Fumo denies doing anything illegal.
