Barack Obama will campaign in Philadelphia Oct 11

The Philadelphia Daily News blog Clout says “a source with knowledge of the campaign” tells them that Barack Obama is planning several events in Philadelphia on Saturday, October 11. Obama hasn’t visited this region much, but I suppose one could ask does he really have too?

The most recent polls have Obama leading John McCain in Pennsylvania on-average of five points. He has much thinner margins to worry about like Ohio (McCain +1%) or Florida (McCain +1%)

Also don’t forget the VP Debate is Thursday night and you can see it live on TV12, hear it live on 91FM and whyy.org

It amazes me how sharp the divide is between Obama supporters and McCain supporters depending upon occupation, region, and lifestyle. As you mention in your post - here in Philly, it’s almost a no-brainer (although in my area, we have a few brave McCain supporters, judging from their lawn signs). However, a friend of mine in another state who is a SFC in the National Guard is staunchly Republican, firmly for John McCain, and hates Obama passionately - he is also a veteran of several wars and is trying not to be called back to Iraq again (or as he calls it, the land of 1,000 Arabian Nightmares) because he has a child that he wants to live to see grow up, and he’s done a few tours already (1st and 2nd op). He’s told me stories of seeing his buddies getting blown up by malfunctioning grenades and ricocheting RPG’s and what happens when military funding doesn’t come through in time …. out of respect for his time in combat (he’s also been a paratrooper), I don’t discuss my political views, but I listen quietly to his stories. I respect McCain’s military service, but I also support Obama’s stance on the economy, jobs, health care, early childhood education, his position on labor/unions (we’re a union family), and many other positions.
The debates and the stark differences of opinions nationwide on the candidates almost remind me of the Civil War era, how families and friends would be split up over the politics of war and race. And now it seems we are in such pivotal times again. Just my 2ยข
