Phila City Council has gone too far

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 at 4:00 pm - by Matt Campbell. Filed under: Uncategorized.

Is this a joke? Two city council-members in Philadelphia are seriously thinking about trying to ban cell phone use and texting while skateboarding, rollerblading, razor scooting or bicycling. If you think I’m kidding check out The Philadelphia Daily News blog Clout story. Now to be fair, these kid friendly transportation methods are not the primary target, banning cell phones/texting in cars is the issue that started this. But this bill, if passed, would still make you a lawbreaker for texting a friend on your bike with “Im almst @ wawa. 5 min tops.” The human-powered vehicles were only recently added by council-members Bill Greenlee and Bill Green to their plan. So, what will they come up with next a mandatory helmet law for Big Wheels?
